About Us

Welcome to the NOLA Lady Spartans basketball team! We are thrilled to have you as a part of our family. Our team is dedicated to providing young ladies with the opportunity to learn and grow their basketball skills, while also instilling important life lessons and reasoning skills both on and off the court.

Led by our head coach Joe Marcelino and assistant coaches Kaisha Josephs and Curtis Williams, our A+ girls basketball training program is designed for young ladies who are looking to excel in basketball. Whether you’re just starting out or you’re looking to take your skills to the next level, our coaching staff has over 30 years of experience, including former Pro and D1 athletes, to help guide you every step of the way.

We are proud to participate in a variety of leagues including NORD, Biddy Basketball, and AAU. Our team practices are held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 6 to 8 PM at either the Cut Off Recreational Center or at Morris FX Jeff Sr Park. We ask that parents provide the necessary information for their young athlete to participate and be prepared to drop off and pick up their child at the appropriate times. Players must come dressed in proper practice basketball attire and ready to play.

At NOLA Lady Spartans, we believe in more than just basketball. We strive to help our players develop positive fundamental life lessons and reasoning skills. We want our players to grow into confident and capable young women who will be successful both on and off the court. Our coaching staff is committed to not only helping you improve your basketball skills, but also your personal and social skills.

In addition to our regular practices and games, we also offer fun activities and events for our players throughout the season. Our team appreciation parties, award ceremonies, and tournaments are always a highlight of the year. We encourage all of our players to participate and get involved in team events to build lasting friendships and memories.

While we are always working to secure sponsorships for all of our student athletes, we do ask that parents keep in mind that there are upfront fees that need to be paid for their child to participate. We strive to keep our fees as low as possible, while still providing our players with the best possible experience.

If you’re interested in joining our team or have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us via email. We will do our best to get back to you within 24 to 48 hours.

We are excited to have you join us for another fantastic season of NOLA Lady Spartans basketball! Let’s work together to help you achieve your goals and become the best player and person you can be.

Coach Joe

Coach Joe Marcelino is a true basketball visionary, with an extensive background in the sport that has led him to become one of the most exciting and experienced coaches out there. Despite a promising career in professional basketball, he decided to pursue his education and career in medicine, but basketball never left his heart. From his high school days, where he received numerous accolades including AAU, BCI, and Jerry Mullen All American awards, to his experience as a player in the La Liga Superior De Puerto Rico, Coach Joe has always been committed to the game.

What sets him apart as a coach is his over 28 years of coaching experience, starting as a Biddy Basketball head coach when he was only 13 years old. He has since led teams at Our Lady Prompt Succer (OLPS) in Chalmette, LA, Park Ball in Los Angeles, Kenner, and New Orleans, where he instills championship winning fundamentals and techniques in all of his student athletes. Coach Joe’s dedication to the sport has resulted in numerous AAU National Championships and one BCI National Championship for the New Orleans Spartan basketball teams.

Moreover, Coach Joe is not just an exceptional coach, but also an innovator. He is the originator of the WHOO way of thinking and concepts, which stands for Winners Help Others Overcome, and Win Honor Others Overcome. His unique approach to coaching has helped many young athletes not only excel on the court, but also in life. Currently, he is establishing the new and exciting NOLA Lady Spartans, where he continues to inspire young athletes to reach their full potential. Overall, Coach Joe Marcelino’s passion and experience in basketball make him a true asset to the sport and to the young athletes he coaches.

Coach Williams

Coach Curtis Williams is a true force to be reckoned with on our team, with his vast knowledge and experience making him one of the most exciting coaches out there. He plays an active role in our sports programs as a NORD head coach for boys basketball, football, and track, and has shown time and again that he is a true master of his craft.

What sets him apart is his impressive record of winning multiple park and national championships for NORD, which is a testament to his incredible coaching skills. Coach Williams knows how to motivate and inspire his players, pushing them to reach their full potential and bring home victories time and time again.

But what truly makes Coach Williams an exciting coach to watch is his ability to create a team environment where everyone feels included and valued. He fosters a strong sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship among his players, making sure that everyone is able to contribute their unique strengths to the team’s success. This approach has helped to build a winning culture that extends beyond just sports, impacting the lives of his players long after they leave the field.

Overall, Coach Curtis Williams is an incredible asset to our team, bringing an unparalleled level of passion, experience, and skill to everything he does. We are lucky to have him as a coach, and his impact will continue to be felt for years to come.

Coach K

Coach Kaisha Lymon Joseph, aka Coach K, is an invaluable asset to our team, bringing a unique perspective and level of experience to our coaching staff as the only female assistant coach. With her impressive background as a former D1 LSU Women’s NCAA basketball player and Nike High School All American, she has a wealth of knowledge and skills that she can share with our young athletes. Her passion for the game and commitment to helping our girls develop their basketball skills is truly admirable.

What sets Coach K apart is her ability to connect with our players on a personal level. As a former player herself, she understands the challenges and pressures that our young athletes face both on and off the court. She is able to provide guidance and support in a way that resonates with our girls, inspiring them to work hard and strive for excellence. Her experience and talent as a basketball player is a source of inspiration and motivation for our team, as she encourages our players to push themselves to their full potential.

In addition to her impressive basketball background, Coach K is also a role model for our girls. As a female coach in a predominantly male-dominated field, she represents the possibilities and opportunities available for women in sports. Our girls look up to her as a trailblazer and an example of what is possible with hard work and dedication. Overall, Coach K is an essential part of our coaching staff, and we are fortunate to have her expertise and leadership guiding our team.

Our Mission

At our organization, we are dedicated to using basketball as a vehicle for positive change in our community. We believe that sports can be an incredibly powerful tool for teaching valuable life lessons to young people, and that through our efforts we can help shape the next generation of leaders in our community. Our mission is simple: to provide a safe, supportive environment where young people can come to learn, grow, and develop both as basketball players and as individuals.

We believe that basketball is about more than just winning games or scoring points. It’s about developing discipline, perseverance, and teamwork, all of which are essential skills that will serve our youth well both on and off the court. By focusing on these values, we hope to instill in our young players a sense of purpose and a desire to give back to their community.

But our mission doesn’t end when the final buzzer sounds. We believe that our work extends far beyond the basketball court. We are committed to creating a positive impact in our community by encouraging our youth to be active, responsible citizens who are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others. We believe that by teaching these important values, we can help build a stronger, more resilient community for everyone.

At the heart of our organization is our commitment to putting God first in everything we do. We believe that this commitment is essential to creating a culture of respect, compassion, and service that will help guide our youth as they navigate the challenges of growing up in today’s world. Through our efforts, we hope to create a community of young people who are empowered to make a positive difference in the world, both on and off the basketball court.
